VENTERSDORP - The Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality has handed over a newly built clinic in the Ventersdorp Local Municipality. The clinic is situated in Welgevonden Village, some 25 kilometers North of Ventersdorp.
When handing over the clinic to the Mayor of Ventersdorp Cllr Celia Phoyane, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality Mayor Boitumelo Moloi encouraged the community to take ownership of the property as it will help to curb the struggles the community have been accustomed to of travelling longer distances to access basic health services.
“Take pride in these premises. I am appealing to you as it is your responsibility to look after this building as it will assist those in need of primary medical care in your area and other surrounding villages,” the Cllr Moloi said.
The Executive Mayor also advised residents to refrain from resorting to violent protests which result into vandalism of essential assets meant to speed up service to communities.
When taking delivery of the Welgevonden clinic, Ventersdorp Mayor Cllr Celia Phoyane said she was overjoyed to finally receive the much awaited clinic on behalf of the communities in Welgevonden and surrounding villages.
“Words cannot describe the gratitude I feel today. Our people have been forced to travel for long distances to access basic health services. Before this gesture by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, our people, especially the senior citizens and people with disability had no option but to take a trip to Ventersdorp Health Centre in Tshing Township to get help. I am happy now that is now a thing of the past.”
Prior the clinic handover, both Mayors of the District and Ventersdorp, accompanied by their Members of Mayoral Committees engaged in a formal session at the Ventersdorp Municipal Council Chamber to consult on budget matters regarding the coming 2014-2014 financial year commencing on July 1, 2014.
The Budget Consultation and the clinic handover is part of the Mayoral Service Delivery Roadshow around the District. It is aimed at showcasing a number of community service projects that include notable developments mainly comprising of infrastructure projects which form part of the core functions of local government at District Municipality level.
